Patricia Barclay
Patricia Barclay studied law at Edinburgh and Oxford Universities. After a number of years with Pfizer in the UK and US she became General Counsel of Vernalis plc, a post that she subsequently held at the privately owned multi national Ferring Group and at Solvay Pharmaceuticals. As such, she has been involved in decision making at the highest level in very different organisations.
Her work has taken her all over the world and has involved the negotiation of complex licensing and cooperation agreements, mergers and acquisitions, fundraising, the management of intellectual property, public affairs and the establishment and development of internal services and departments. She has also sat on industry committees and represented industry interests to law makers and taken part in policy reviews.
She has hands on experience of the pharmaceutical, animal health, medical device, chemical, foodscience and cosmetics sectors.
Patricia is admitted as a solicitor in Scotland and has undertaken training in mediation with the International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution in New York, Pepperdine University of California and Core in Scotland. She is a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution and as such conducts mediation in accordance with their ethical code. She is also a member of the mediation panel of the World Intellectual Property Organisation and of the Scottish Mediation Network. She has served as Chair of the IBA Mediation Techniques Committee form whom she developed a book of practical essays and is currently secretary to the IBA Medicine and the Law Committee. In 2010 she became the first Scottish solicitor to be honoured with a fellowship by the American Bar Association.
She is a popular speaker with professional and academic audiences and has presented on various topics around the world.
All work is conducted in English but she has some knowledge of French, German, Russian, Dutch and Spanish.
